Outing myself here, but I went to Southwest to book my ticket last night and it came up all different! The pages behind the front are still, for now, the same though. And I miss the Southwest login that was on the front page, top right. I completely missed it when they put it in the bottom left and only saw it when I was putting together the thumbnail for the page just now. I hope they’ll restore it to the top right where people expect it to be.
Generally, I like the new Web 2.0, AJAXified look. Besides establishing a firmer, more forceful visual hierarchy, and slowly doing away with the old blah 1998 feel, we’ve finally broken a decade of tiny pixelated type and drop shadows! Now we’re in the era of shiny polished ipod like objects and big type. =( But I like the big type.
My first hint that a rebrand was afoot was probably when I got a fancier HTML email confirm from them a few weeks ago, then, when I got on the plane to KC last week and checked out the new in-flight magazine, Spirit. They’ve revamped the entire look and feel, even on the website, there are some more engaging spreads, done away with the Interstate typeface — my favorite typeface, actually — which permeated so much of its brand, and gone a bit more upscale with what looks like a Didot typeface. It’s good: I think it has a bit more playful feeling and isn’t heavy as the Bodoni can be, which would overwhelm the copy on the page.
