Virtual closet in destination cities saves time, effort?

Heard about FlyLite, the virtual closet company, on NPR’s MarketPlace yesterday. Is it worth the money? Well, I do travel enough weekly that I could spend the money, $100 a trip, on stashing my clothes in some place in advance, except I don’t consult in Boston, Philly, DC, or New York, because my time could be worth it. Now, is it really $100 worth of my time? Maybe. I have it down to a science: personal care products in a plastic ziplock bag (wasn’t this a government subsidy of that firm?), shoes, shirts, pants, everything is ready to go into my Travelpro Crew 6 in half an hour at most. Since it’s only 21″ it fits into the overhead compartment and my laptop bag gets wedged under the seat in front of me. Even carrying two laptops with me I can get through security in less than a minute. If I was traveling up to four cities a week, perhaps, but odds are good that if you’re that strapped for time you could probably seek efficiencies elsewhere.

I guess it would be good for people who travel 2 weeks out of every month?

Apropos of nothing, but do you know who Orson Scott Card is? He wrote Ender’s Game? Anyway, he has a semi-regular column on his site where he reviews, in his words, everything. He can be a bit (a lot) preachy (he’s religious and has this thing about Hollywood and unnecessary adult content), but he also has this rant about supermarkets that reminds me of your user thing. Basically, he doesn’t understand why chains cannot tailor their buying to the local populace needs instead of taking a national average.

I’m acquainted (not personally) with OSC. I like how his obsession with reviewing things from chain stores and restaurants turns into yet another delightful bit of neurosis for the reading public. I’m less enthused about some of his other written opinions, but, ain’t that America, home of the free? Little pink houses for you and me.

From his writing, I had no idea he was a Democrat. Then again, since he appears to admire Zell Miller, it’s no wonder, huh?
