Sorry, been busy ramping up at my new gig, but, I was recently reminded of something a pretty smart guy, Ahmed Sako, once told me when I was working in New York: we are all eventually going to be technologists, someday. And he was right: in our line of work, any business is inevitably going to have to become technologists, participate in requirements and deliverable reviews, deal with usability issues and interface design, and a whole raft of other issues involving bringing their business online in some way. Therein lies the problem of course, because there are many, many people within a company who are tasked with owning a business, and yet have never ever worked with technologists, designers, and information architects, much less all of them at once. That’s a huge problem and like all change management problems is something that really neither side is well equipped to deal with, but nevertheless needs to happen.
